POLOKWANE – The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has condemned the murder of an off-duty police officer, Detective Sergeant Luanda Rice Ringani(41), who was shot together with a female passenger (25) on Sunday night, 2 June 2024 at Mamadimo Park in Mankweng policing precinct. The local police responded to a shooting incident at about 21:50. Upon arrival, they found the Police Officer and a female passenger with multiple gunshot wounds inside the vehicle. The Detective Sergeant was declared dead at the scene by the emergency medical personnel while the female victim was rushed to the hospital for medical attention. According to preliminary information, the victims noticed that they were being followed by a suspicious silver Mercedes Benz with Gauteng registration and drove to the woman’s residence in Mamadimo for safety. The suspects followed the victims to the place and fired several shots at them before they could enter the yard and fled the scene. The deceased officer was a dedicated member of the Detective Services attached to Polokwane SAPS. A case of murder and an attempted murder have been opened The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, accompanied by other SAPS senior management, including DPCI and Forensics, visited the scene. The Provincial Commissioner has directed the police to mobilize resources to ensure the swift apprehension of the suspects involved in the murder of the Detective Sergeant and an attempted murder in Mankweng. “We have mobilised resources at our disposal to ensure the swift apprehension of the suspects. We urge anyone with information related to this incident to come forward and assist the police in their efforts to arrest the suspects,” said Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe. The Provincial Commissioner has also expressed heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased officer, stating: “We are deeply shocked and saddened by the senseless killing of one of our own.
