Media Statement POLOKWANE – The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, strongly condemned the domestic violence-related and gender-based violence incidents that took place at Capricorn and Sekhukhune Districts, on Friday 14 March 2025. In Mankweng, a 48-year-old male suspect was apprehended for the brutal murder of a 14-year-old stepdaughter at Ga-Thoka village outside Mankweng policing precinct in Capricorn district on Friday, 14 March 2025, at around 06:30 in the morning. According to the police report, the victim was on her way to school, accompanied by her fellow learner, when the stepfather approached, attacked, and stabbed her several times with a sharp object and left her helplessly on the road. The police were informed about the attack. On their arrival, they found a victim lying in a pool of blood, still wearing a well-known school uniform. The emergency medical service personnel upon their arrival, certified the victim dead on the scene. The police immediately activated a search operation for the suspect and he was located in Polokwane where he was apprehended. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had a domestic dispute with the deceased’s mother the previous night. The suspect will appear before Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 17 March 2025, facing charges of murder. In a separate incident, a 75-year-old male suspect was involved in a domestic violence incident. On Friday, 24 March 2025, at around 23:00, at Malegale village in Sekhukhune District, the suspect was searching for a male victim whom he allegedly bought bricks from his brickyard. The suspect who was driving his own vehicle met the victim on the street in his vehicle and without saying any words, he shot him in his upper body. The victim managed to drive to the nearest hospital. The suspect went back to his own house. On his arrival, he allegedly poured a flammable liquid on his house and set it alight. He proceeded to another room where his wife was sleeping and woke her up, threatened to kill her, and instructed her to get inside the burning house with him. Fortunately, the wife managed to escape, and the suspect tried to chase and shoot her several times with no luck. Later, the suspect shot himself and passed on at the scene. The police have opened an inquest case. The police urge anyone who is experiencing any gender-based violence related or domestic violence related matter to seek assistance from the professional.
