Media Statement POLOKWANE – The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has applauded the police for tracking and tracing a 43-year-old suspect following the murder of a 47-year-old police Sergeant, Leah Mosalofi Malebye, attached to the Rooiberg police station in the Waterberg District. The suspect was arrested after he handed himself to the police at klipgat, North West Province during the early hours of Thursday, 30 January 2025. Initial reports suggest that the Sergeant returned home on the night of 25 January 2025, with her boyfriend. The next morning, her lifeless body was discovered by her 6-year-old grandson. At that time, both the boyfriend and the Sergeant’s vehicle were missing. Neighbours reported the matter to the police, who promptly summoned emergency medical personnel, who confirmed the Sergeant’s death at the scene. Later, her private vehicle was discovered abandoned about 50 kilometres away from her home, along Thabazimbi Road near, Koedoeskop. The motive behind this senseless act of violence remains unclear, although domestic violence cannot be ruled out at this stage. The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Hadebe has welcomed the arrest of suspect involved in the heinous attack and killing of the police Sergeant. “I am delighted that within days of the senseless killing of our officer, the Police moved swiftly and managed to arrest this callous criminal. I am confident that the investigation team will present a water tight case before the court of law to ensure that the suspect receives a harsher sentence for his senseless act,” said Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe. The memorial and funeral service of the late police Sergeant Malebye will be communicated in due time. Ends
