POLOKWANE – The South African Police Service in Limpopo is bidding farewell to a dedicated and disciplined member who served SAPS for four decades, Brigadier Julia Naledzani Sivhula. The farewell function took place at SAPS Seshego Lapa and it was graced by the presence of District Commissioner of Capricorn Major General Lesiba Mashilo, Polokwane Station Commander Brigadier Makhura, Seshego Station Commander Brigadier Shirinda SF, Women’s Network,Colonel Betty Mongalo, Men for Change Captain Malesela Maleka, Station Commanders, Detectives Commanders and Commanders from Specialized Units were also in attendance. Brigadier Sivhula N.J. commenced her career in 1984 when she joined the South African Police Service at Sibasa Training College. Upon completion, she was deployed at Dzanani Police Station. Through the years, she moved up the ranks, occupying leadership positions as an instructor and Station Commander at different police stations, such as Bandelierkop, Soekmekaar (now Morebeng) Makhado, and Polokwane, among others. The seasoned police officer continued to lead at Seshego and later Mankweng as Cluster Commander before she was appointed as Deputy District Commissioner in the Capricorn district. Besides being a dedicated policewoman, retired Brigadier Sivhula is a community builder, having initiated vegetable gardens wherever she worked. The vegetables are distributed among the destitute families in the community. She also plays an instrumental role in building houses for the poor. She initiated the project of building a house for a family from Ga-Komape in Moletjie, which was officially handed over on Tuesday, 26 November 2024. Her accolades include the National Diploma in Policing, a junior degree in Human Resource Management, an honors degree in Human Resource Development, a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Community Policing, and a Certificate in Labour Law. She also established the Women’s Network structures. Major General Mashilo noted in his address, appreciation for working with Brigadier Sivhula. “She has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to her work. Her ability to effectively manage and address complex issues, particularly those related to females’ concerns. Today, we have gathered here to bid her farewell; she has served the service for 40 years,” Brigadier Sivhula identified a project in Tolwe and selected needy children, then developed a way to assist those children, and they went door-to-door collecting donations to help the needy children. In response, Brigadier Sivhula offered encouraging words to her colleagues that they should focus on personal growth, positivity and build unity in the Capricorn district. She also highlighted the importance of teamwork. “I am grateful for our collective achievement and growth. SAPS has shaped me into a leader. SAPS has been my foundation, and I will carry its values forward. Exiting SAPS is bittersweet, but I am proud of our shared successes. I leave with experience and knowledge. I feel honoured to have served under the leadership and watchful eye of General Mashilo,” said Brigadier Sivhula. “To my colleagues and everyone, recognize that not everyone in your social circle has your best interests at heart. Surround yourself with people who encourage and applaud your achievements, no matter how small,” added Brigadier Sivhula. Ends
