POLOKWANE – Through the high-density operation Shanela commonly known as Kukula, the police arrested 427 suspects for various offences across all five districts in the province, starting from Monday, 24 March to Sunday 30 March 2025. The joint operation was conducted by SAPS components, Traffic Police, SANDF, Department of Correctional Service and Community Police Forums. The suspects were arrested for rape, assault GBH, assault common, sexual assault, business robbery, contravention of the Immigration Act and driving under the influence of alcohol among others. The operation was executed focusing on stop and searches, tracing of wanted suspects, motor vehicle testing, police visibility and other related measures to enhance law enforcement effectiveness. The arrests were effected as follows:- ▶️ 02 illegal possession of unlicensed firearm ▶️ 14 dealing in drugs ▶️ 03 Possession of illicit cigarettes ▶️ 05 Murder ▶️ 06 Rape and ▶️ 04 Driving under the influence of alcohol amongst others. The following items were confiscated during the operation: ▶️ 26L of alcohol beverages ▶️ 32 Ammunitions of different types of firearms ▶️ 13 Counterfeit goods ▶️ 09 Dangerous weapons ▶️ 0.22g of Dagga ▶️ 10 Packets of illicit tobacco “We have more boots on the ground to heighten visibility with a specific focus on preventing and combating crime especially since we are heading towards the Easter season. These operations will be intensified to ensure the safety and security of our citizens, business community and holiday makers,” said Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe. Some of the arrested suspects have already started to appear before their various Magistrate’s Courts. Ends
