Media Statement POLOKWANE – The Police in Limpopo through a Disruptive Operation Vala Umgodi on Saturday, 11 May 2024, apprehended three male suspects aged between 28 and 38 years for business robbery. It is reported that members of the Multidisciplinary Team whose primary goal is ro prevent and combat illegal mining activities in Limpopo, swiftly acted upon the call for operational support to a business robbery incident occurred at a restaurant in Polokwane on Saturday 11 May 2024 at about 17:40 According to the information, while the team was about to approach the said crime scene they were informed that the suspects had fled the scene driving a maroon motor vehicle Toyota Etios with four armed male occupants. The SAPS Tactical Response Team followed the lead to a shopping center along Market and Hospital streets in Polokwane. The team ultimately spotted the vehicle that matched the description of the target subsequently the suspects started shooting at the Police. The Police retaliated and a cross fire ensued. Three male suspects were nabbed while one armed unknown male suspect fled the scene on foot. The arrested suspects were found in possession of undisclosed amount of money. One suspect amongst the arrested, it was discovered that he was short and injured. The remaining business robbery suspect who evaded arrest when his three accomplices were apprehended is still on the run. The search for him is still on. In a separate incident the Multidisciplinary Team have arrested five illegal miners on Saturday 11 May 2024 at Makurung village outside Lebowakgomo for illegal sand mining. It is reported that five male suspects aged between 21 and 36 were nabbed while digging and loading sand into a tipper truck without having mining permit. The Police have confiscated mining equipment at illegal mining sites that included tipper truck wheelbarrows, shovels, rake, spades and picks. Anyone with information that can assist to apprehend the wanted male suspect should contact investigating officer Lieutenant Colonel Ngoako Ragophala at 076 481 6301 or report to the SAPS Crime Stop at 08600 10111 alternatively report to the nearest Police Station and can forward anonymous tip-off to MySAPSapp.
The arrested suspects are expected to appear before Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 14 May 2024.
