According to Sunday World, Limpopo Education MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya is facing a lawsuit following an incident in which a learner fractured her right arm during an unsupervised netball practice on a dangerous school playground.
The pupil, supported by her legal team, is seeking R2.2 million in damages.
In a ruling from the Limpopo High Court, Acting Judge Johan Ströh determined that the school had failed to uphold its duty of care by neglecting proper supervision and allowing learners to use a poorly maintained netball court.
The field, described as uneven with patches of grass on red soil, directly contributed to the accident.
The case has raised concerns over the state of school facilities across Limpopo.
With many schools struggling with deteriorating infrastructure, some learners are forced to study outdoors due to overcrowding and neglected buildings.
