Limpopo Boy Apologises to Shai Family Over Viral Video Scandal
South African dancer and entertainer Matome Robert Mahlatse Thoka, better known as Limpopo Boy, has broken his silence over the viral private video scandal, issuing a public apology to the Shai family while admitting that his own poor judgement contributed to the controversy.
In a public letter dated 12 August 2026, Thoka expressed deep remorse over the fallout from the leaked intimate video, which has spread rapidly across social media and triggered significant professional and personal consequences.
The controversy has already cost him a place on the lineup for the inaugural Creators Assembly 2026 in Botswana, adding to mounting pressure as the entertainer attempts to contain the damage.
Limpopo Boy Apologises to Shai Family
In his statement, Thoka directed a specific apology to the Shai family, acknowledging the pain and distress caused by the incident.
He claimed that he only discovered after the video was leaked that the woman involved was married.
“I only discovered after the video was leaked that she was married,” Thoka said.
He acknowledged that he should have independently established her marital status before becoming involved in what he described as a private moment.
“I should have independently verified her marital status before sharing a private moment with her. Instead of doing that, I threw caution to the wind and I’m now paying the price for my poor judgement,” he said.
The admission comes as the controversy continues to generate intense discussion online.
‘I’m Not a Home Wrecker’
Thoka also addressed questions surrounding his values and upbringing, saying that he was raised in a Christian family where marriage was respected.
“I’m not a home wrecker,” he said.
His comments appear aimed at separating the circumstances surrounding the leaked video from allegations that he knowingly became involved with a married woman.
However, he acknowledged that his failure to verify the situation before the incident was a serious lapse in judgement.
Private Video Leak Sparks Social Media Storm
The scandal escalated after explicit footage involving Thoka and a woman began circulating widely online.
According to Thoka’s management, the video was stolen and distributed without consent. His team has said cybersecurity experts are assisting with efforts to investigate how the footage was obtained and circulated.
The leak itself has raised serious questions about privacy and the unauthorised distribution of intimate material.
At the same time, the controversy intensified after social media users identified the woman featured in the footage as Matshidiso Matilda, who has been described online as a married socialite.
The claims surrounding the identity and marital status of the woman have fuelled further public scrutiny, although the circumstances surrounding the video and its distribution remain under investigation.
Shai Family Asked for Privacy
The Shai family previously appealed for privacy as they dealt with the fallout from the incident internally.
Thoka’s latest statement comes against that backdrop, with the entertainer attempting to acknowledge the family’s distress while also accepting responsibility for his own actions.
His apology does not, however, resolve the wider questions surrounding the alleged leak or who was responsible for distributing the footage.
Those matters remain separate from the personal controversy and are reportedly being investigated by his team with the assistance of cybersecurity specialists.
Limpopo Boy Asks for a Second Chance
As the backlash continues, Thoka has acknowledged that repairing his reputation will require more than a public statement.
He closed his letter with a traditional Sepedi proverb appealing for forgiveness and understanding, while recognising that trust cannot be restored overnight.
The entertainer said rebuilding trust would require time, accountability and corrective action.
For now, Thoka is asking the public and his followers for an opportunity to learn from the controversy and do better in the future.
But with the video continuing to circulate online and professional consequences already emerging, the apology is unlikely to be the final chapter in a scandal that has placed the entertainer’s personal conduct, privacy and public reputation under intense scrutiny.
