Legendary South African Actor Mfana "Jones" Hlophe Reportedly Passes Away

South Africans are mourning following breaking reports that legendary actor, singer, and dancer Mfana “Jones” Hlophe has passed away.

Hlophe, a multifaceted artist whose career spanned over three decades, reportedly passed away on 8 October 2026. Details surrounding the cause of his death remain unconfirmed as the entertainment industry and fans await an official statement from his family.

Born on April 29, 1971, in Durban’s Umlazi Township, Hlophe was a highly respected figure in both theatre and television. He was groomed under iconic theater pioneers Mbongeni Ngema and Gibson Kente.

Throughout his illustrious career, he delivered unforgettable performances in some of South Africa’s most iconic productions: Generations: The Legacy: He recently made a major television comeback portraying the character Bra Nimrod Thabede, Uzalo: Portrayed the role of Zakhele, Soul City: Played the memorable role of Jabu from 2006 to 2007, Sarafina!: Part of the internationally touring ensemble and the 1992 film adaptation and Kwa Baba: Featured as Mkhize Uncle in the 2026 Mzansi Magic telenovela.
