NORTHERN CAPE – An integrated multi-disciplinary team led by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection and the Acting Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing, Major General Luntu Ngubelanga, the Frances Baard District Commissioner Major General Charlotte Makgari together with Provincial Units, Kimberley Station Commander Brigadier Nicholas Mtongana, Sol Plaatje Municipality Mayor, Kagisho Senyone, Frances Baard District Municipality, Sol Plaatje Municipal Traffic, Sol Plaatje Municipality environmental health, Sol Plaatje Municipality Peace Officers, Northern Liquor Board and the Consumer Protection conducted compliance inspections and stop and search operations in Kimberley, Galeshewe, Kagisho and in Roodepan on Friday 08 November 2024. A total of 130 vehicles and 232 persons were stopped and searched at vehicle checkpoints (VCP’S) and traffic fines amounting to R21 450 for various traffic violations were issued. The team embarked on awareness campaigns to address GBVF related crimes and safety during the festive season. Several tuckshops were inspected, of which seven were closed down by the health inspectors. Two tuck shop owners were issued with fines to the amount of R1000 each for having gambling machines in the tuck shop. Drugs including crystal myth, dangerous weapons, and money believed to be the proceeds of crime were found and confiscated, resulting in the arrest of a 35-year-old suspect for possession of suspected drugs and possession of dangerous weapons and a 41-year-old foreign national woman was arrested for being illegally in the country.
Major General Ngubelanga commended the different role players in the fight against crime and for ensuring that business establishments adhere to health and safety regulations and assured residents that integrated operations will continue unabatedly during the festive season and beyond.
