Legendary Isicathamiya group to headline special two-night concert series at Wild Coast Sun while giving local youth a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity

The unmistakable harmonies of Ladysmith Black Mambazo are set to echo across the Eastern Cape this Father’s Day weekend as the world-renowned group prepares to take centre stage at the Wild Coast Sun in Bizana for a special two-night concert experience.

The five-time Grammy Award-winning music icons will perform on 20 and 21 June at 7pm, offering audiences an unforgettable celebration of South Africa’s rich Isicathamiya heritage. For many fans, it will be a rare opportunity to witness one of the country’s most celebrated cultural treasures performing live in an intimate setting.

The timing of the event adds an extra layer of significance. With the second performance taking place on Father’s Day, families will have the chance to gather and celebrate a day dedicated to honouring fathers, family bonds and generations of shared traditions.

But the weekend is about far more than music.

In a powerful boost for youth development in the arts, talented young performers from across the Eastern Cape will share the stage with the internationally acclaimed group through the Ladysmith Black Mambazo Mobile Academy.

Supported by the National Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, the initiative is designed to identify and nurture hidden indigenous talent in communities across South Africa. Through mentorship, performance opportunities and industry exposure, aspiring artists are equipped with the tools needed to build sustainable careers and potentially take their talents to audiences both locally and internationally.

For many young performers, appearing alongside Ladysmith Black Mambazo represents a life-changing opportunity and a chance to learn directly from artists who have carried South African music onto some of the world’s biggest stages.

Speaking about the significance of performing on Father’s Day, Ladysmith Black Mambazo member Sibongiseni Shabalala said the occasion carries deep personal and cultural meaning for the group.

“Performing on Father’s Day holds unique significance for our group. This day is a celebration of fatherhood, legacy and family bonds, themes that resonate deeply with our music and values.

“For us, performing on this occasion is not just about the performance itself but about honouring the paternal figures who have shaped our lives and passed down cultural wisdom through generations.

“It is a moment of reflection and gratitude, connecting the past to the present and inspiring future custodians of Isicathamiya.”

The concerts are expected to attract music lovers from across the region, drawn by a group whose legacy spans decades and whose distinctive sound continues to captivate audiences around the globe.

Tickets for the performances range from R150 to R350.
