A devastating wave of drone and missile strikes hit Ukraine’s capital overnight, leaving at least 16 people dead and over 150 injured. Among the victims were children, including a six-year-old boy and his mother, as residential areas were heavily bombarded.
Dozens of locations across Kyiv were struck, with apartment blocks reduced to rubble and emergency teams working through the day to rescue survivors. One particularly hard-hit area saw the complete collapse of a building entrance, where multiple lives were lost.
The overnight attack marks one of the deadliest single nights in the capital since the beginning of the full-scale war. Despite international calls for a ceasefire and renewed pressure from global leaders, the strikes have continued unabated.
The city was haunted by the eerie sound of drones for hours, punctuated by the sharp explosions of missiles. Fireballs lit up the skyline, and the impact was felt across several districts. In one area, the shockwave shattered the windows of a children’s hospital. A school and a kindergarten were also damaged.
Ukraine’s leadership responded by emphasizing the need for strength in the face of escalating aggression, pointing to the destruction as evidence that appeals for peace alone may not be enough.
Elsewhere, fierce fighting continued on the eastern front. Russian forces claimed to have captured a key hilltop town after months of intense battles. Ukrainian officials, however, disputed the claim, insisting that fighting was still ongoing and warning of disinformation.
The contested town, which has been the site of brutal combat for over a year, is of strategic importance due to its elevated position. Control of the area would give the occupying forces a tactical advantage over several major cities in the Donetsk region.
Further south, another frontline town is facing increased pressure amid concerns that Ukrainian troops stationed there could be at risk of encirclement. Analysts warn that the town has become one of the most intense flashpoints in the conflict.
As the war grinds on, civilians continue to bear the brunt of the violence, with communities left mourning and infrastructure increasingly devastated. Calls for diplomatic solutions persist, but the escalating attacks show no signs of slowing—leaving many to fear what may come next.
