Kruger coach makes big promise to Chiefs ahead of first game
Kruger United head coach Abram Mongoya has vowed to make life difficult for Kaizer Chiefs when the two sides meet in their opening Betway Premiership match at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.
The Mpumalanga outfit earned promotion to the top flight after winning the Motsepe Foundation Championship last season.
“What a way to start for Kruger United,” said Mongoya at the Betway Premiership launch.
“We have built a decent squad and I can promise we will give Chiefs a very good run for their money.”
Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz admitted that facing a newly promoted side is never easy.
“It is always difficult to play a club that comes from the second division because they are full of confidence,” said Da Cruz.
“But we will give our best on Saturday. I know there is a lot of pressure. It is not only from the Amakhosi supporters, I also put pressure on myself. The most important thing is how we prepare for the match.”
The launch also reunited Da Cruz with his former Kaizer Chiefs colleagues Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef.
Kaze, now in charge of Sekhukhune United, and Ben Youssef, who coaches Durban City, will go head-to-head on Saturday at Makhulong Stadium.
Both coaches said they were looking forward to the clash, with Kaze adding that while they have worked together for years, the focus is now on helping their respective clubs start the season with a victory.
