Media Statement BLOEMFONTEIN – The police at Kopanong opened double Murder case on Sunday 12 May 2024. A shooting incident complaint was received from Saliva Square early in the morning and a patrol van despatched to attend. Members arrived at the scene and found bodies of two males with gunshot wounds lying outside of a house. A third victim was shot on the right hand but survived to tell the tale. The 58 year old female identified the two assailants who shot and killed the 28 and 40 aged males. Four spent cartridges were collected while processing the scene. Sergeant Thabiso Shadrack Ntsaku who was on vacation leave got wind of a place frequented by one of the suspects. The Public Order Police Unit Bloemfontein operator took his bicycle and started riding in the area to collect more information. Later during the day, the Sergeant spotted the vehicle usually driven by one of the suspects at a local car wash in Freedom Square. He mobilised a reaction team from his unit and the first suspect, Steven Ndaka (46) also known as Ghost was arrested. Ghost appeared in Bloemfontein Magistrate Court yesterday, Tuesday 14 May 2024. Sergeant Ntsaku continued with his bicycle patrols yesterday and traced the second suspect to an address in Freedom West. He immediately sought backup from Anti-Gang Unit Bloemfontein team and the second suspect was found hiding underneath a bed.
Two (2) pellet guns; 9mm Retay G19L and 9mm Retay Mod 92 were recovered by members of Public Order Police Unit Bloemfontein whilst following the information. The police are still looking for the firearm used during the murders. The second 37-year-old suspect will appear in Court today.
