Man arrested for alleged kidnapping and murder of Grade 12 learner
A 23-year-old man was arrested in Kanyamazane, Mpumalanga for the alleged murder of a 17-year-old girl, whose body was discovered on the evening of Friday, 14 March 2025.
According to police, the victim was last seen by her family at 5h45 AM that Friday, as she left home to catch a bus to school.
Later that day, at approximately 5h30 PM, authorities were alerted to an inquest at Extension 16, Kanyamazane.
Upon arrival, officers found the suspect, who initially claimed to be a concerned witness. He led them to a room where the victim’s lifeless body was discovered. The man told police the room belonged to his brother and that he had no knowledge of the circumstances. The victim, still in her school uniform, was found covered with a duvet, a rope around her neck, and another piece hanging from the ceiling.
Although the investigation is ongoing, authorities believe the suspect played a role in the crime, leading to his arrest on charges of murder.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Kanyamazane District Court on Monday, 17 March 2025
