Media Statement POTCHEFSTROOM – 35-year-old Edwin Monnakgotlha is expected to make a third appearance before the Mogwase Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 23 October 2024, on a charge of kidnapping. He initially appeared before the court on Tuesday, 15 and Wednesday, 16 October 2024, and was remanded in custody for his bail application. Monnakgotlha’s court appearance follows his apprehension on Monday afternoon, 14 October 2024, in Chaneng village, near Phokeng outside Rustenburg, by a team comprising of Bojanala Sub-District 2 Detectives, Sun City Visible Policing and Rustenburg Crime Intelligence. That after the matter was reported to the police in Sun City on Sunday afternoon, 13 October 2024. It is alleged that the accused kidnapped his father on Sunday, 13 October 2024, in Ledig village. Subsequent to the arrest, the victim was handed over to the investigation team unharmed on Monday, 14 October 2024, by two males who claimed to be the accused’s legal representatives. Investigation into the matter is underway and the motive of the incident is yet to be confirmed.
The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena extolled the team members for their swift response that resulted in the breakthrough and subsequent arrest of the accused. He warned that police will not hesitate to act decisively against anyone who brazenly perpetrate crime and undermines the rule of law.
