Media Statement KIMBERLEY – Northern Cape detectives, together with State Prosecutors, are advancing towards seeking justice for victims of sexual offences. The Keimoes Regional Court sentenced 30-year-old Sardiuney Witbooi, to four years imprisonment for the sexual assault of a 26 year old woman. On Sunday, 20 August 2023, the accused entered the home of the victim through a window and proceeded to assault her sexually in her bedroom. She became aware of the assault and shouted to her father and boyfriend, who were also sleeping in the house. The police were alerted, and the accused was subsequently arrested. Detective Warrant Officer Eddie Mokgalagadi of the Kakamas Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit led the investigation and secured the conviction of the sex offender. The accused was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment for sexual assault, wholly suspended for five years’. Furthermore, the court declared him unfit to possess a firearm. Contact crimes remain a priority for the SAPS, and efforts will be intensified to curb the commission of these atrocious crimes.
