Kaizer Junior with important message after Chiefs Confed Cup collapse
Kaizer Chiefs have thrown their full weight behind Fernando Da Cruz, with sporting director Kaizer Motaung Junior insisting the club will not be swayed by “the emotion of an adverse result.”
In a statement released after Friday’s penalty shootout loss to Red Arrows, which ended their Confederation Cup dream, Motaung Junior moved quickly to calm the storm around the Chiefs coach.
“We would like to reaffirm our full support for, and confidence in, the Head Coach and the entire technical team,” he said. “They continue to have our trust.”
The vote of confidence comes as pressure on Da Cruz has been building. Chiefs were winless in four matches before the Arrows tie, and reports of unhappiness behind the scenes have been circulating.
Motaung Junior did not hold back in his praise of the technical team, describing their “professionalism, work ethic, and commitment to improving the team every day” as “irreproachable.”
He also pointed to the fight shown on the pitch. “Yesterday, despite the result and the injuries we carry, that warrior spirit was visible on the field,” he said.
The message was clear: Chiefs are sticking to the plan. “Success in football is rarely defined by a single match or a single competition,” Motaung Junior said, adding that the club has made “significant progress in key areas of our sporting project.”
He made it plain that the club will not react to the disappointment with a knee-jerk decision. “Our responsibility is not to be guided solely by the emotion of an adverse result, but rather by careful analysis, stability, and strategic decision-making.”
Motaung Junior acknowledged the frustration among supporters and thanked them for their passion. “The standards at this institution remain as high as ever,” he said.
He closed with a call for togetherness. “Now is the time for unity, not division. We believe in the work being done, we believe in the people leading that work, and we believe the foundations being laid today will deliver the success our supporters deserve.”
Whether the Naturena faithful share that belief remains to be seen.
