MOVE TO AMAKHOSI?
Most Kaizer Chiefs supporters stood up when they heard this last Wednesday. Morgan Mammila said Mosimane is coming back to the DStv Premiership. Let’s have a look at why Amakhosi are the most likely destination.
Chippa’s Technical Director, Mammila, went on X on Tuesday night. He announced that Mosimane is returning to the local league in 2024/25 but did not reveal to which club. “Can’t wait for the start of the DSTV Premiership 2024/2025 season wesho David Mogashoa [Moroka Swallows chairman and close friend],” Mammila said on X. The Boss @TheRealPitso [Pitso Mosimane] is back. 😅 He is coming back home, and he will say this [“some people have been getting all these benefits”].
Though Mosimane is currently engaged with Abhha Club in Saudi Arabia, his contract situation supports Mammila’s claim. The former Mamelodi Sundowns, Bafana Bafana, and Al Ahly coach signed a four-month deal with Abha. The contract started in February, meaning it will expire in May. The same month will be the end of the season in Saudi Arabia and the DStv Premiership.
WHY KAIZER CHIEFS?
Considering Mosimane’s profile, ambitions and his decision to declare interest to coach Kaizer Chiefs on national television, Naturena is the most likely destination next season.
The Soweto Giants’ founder and chairman, Kaizer Motaung, previously confirmed the club’s search for a new coach. “I cannot say at the moment how many CVs are on the table, but process is taking place,” the Kaizer Chiefs chairman said via SportsLIVE with BBK in December 2023. “We haven’t embarked on talking to anybody at the moment, but we have put a process is in place for us to deal with new coach that we want to bring in, because as you said, Mr Johnson is just an interim coach at the moment,” the Amakhosi icon concluded.
Mosimane later went on television to reveal his ambitions to coach the mighty Kaizer Chiefs. “We should respect the brand, it is a big brand,” Mosimane said on SuperSport TV’s Soccer Africa.
“…When Chiefs play, I go to grandstand and watch. I don’t need that…If it is meant to be, it will be there. I declare to you officially on TV. I am here. I am available; I’m a professional coach. If it has to be, it will be. Do I want to coach Kaizer Chiefs? Why not? Why not coach Kaizer Chiefs? Why not?” Mosimane concluded.
Meanwhile, Mosimane is among seven coaches currently linked with the Glamour Boys. The list includes popular candidates like Benni McCarthy and Nasreddine Nabi.
According to the most recent reports, the former Nigeria, FC Porto, and Sporting Lisbon coach Jose Peseiro is a leading favourite to coach Chiefs next term. Recent reports said Amakhosi’s management requested to meet his agent.
Another leading name is the Tunsinian Nabi. The former Young Africans coach narrowly came close to joining Amakhosi in June 2023. The two parties failed to agree on negotiations regarding Nabi’s assistants. Chiefs declined to part ways with some of the club’s existing technical team members. Meanwhile, Nabi joined AS FAR in Morocco, where he is leading the log table with four points with six games remaining.
South African football legend McCarthy is also in the mix. Reports say his contract with Manchester United ends in June and will not be renewed.
