MOLEFI NTSEKI ON AMAKHOSI SUPPORTERS AND MANAGEMENT
Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki has regarded Amakhosi supporters with understanding and wisdom. Here he is talking about the abuse he faced and what the club should expect from new coach Nasreddine Nabi.
As reported in October 2023, the club decided to part ways with Ntseki after just three wins from 13 games in charge, including four draws and six defeats. Ntseki, who was initially appointed as the Kaizer Chiefs Head of Youth, was given the first team coaching job after Amakhosi’s bosses declined to hire Nasreddine Nabi with his own technical team.
“I don’t think the supporters were very impatient with me,” Ntseki said on Metro FM, as cited by FARPost.
What happened [missile throwing] was not happening for the first time. He had been asked about his relationship with Chiefs supporters.
“So I think something has to make a U-turn in terms of how things are happening at the club. If I’m saying the supporters were impatient with me, what about other coaches? Before I was appointed, the expectation towards the end of the season was for Chiefs to have a new coach. As the technical committee, we were looking for that coach [Nasreddine Nabi], and things did not work out for us.
“The club decided to appoint me. I think what needed to happen at that time was for the supporters to understand why the expected coach could not come to the club at that time. So when you look at my appointment from the word go, the supporters were not happy. Already there was a bit of frustration. And because of what they experienced over the years, they wanted someone they believe will bring success.
“What they want is players and the coach to win them trophies and the league. [That] is not going to happen overnight,” the former Kaizer Chiefs coach and Technical Director concluded.
SAMKELO ZWANE
A section of Kaizer Chiefs supporters are praying for Samkelo Zwane’s success under the new coaching structure. The 22-year-old’s father, Eugene, has similar hopes.
The Ruimsig-born star was promoted by former coach Arthur Zwane in 2022. In two DStv Premiership seasons, the central midfielder only managed 23 appearances under coaches like Molefi Ntseki and Cavin Johnson. With Nasreddine Nabi set to lead Kaizer Chiefs next season, Samkelo’s father is feeling fresh hope.
“It does look like there’s some positivity developing in that space, but I don’t want to get too excited. We’re going to see from team selection, firstly, and his performances,” Eugene said via SABC Sport.
“All I’m hoping for is that he get’s a chance to play, and when he gets the opportunity to play, he performs consistently.
“We know he’s got the potential, all that remains is for him to be given a chance to fulfil that potential and for him to work hard enough to deliver consistently for the club.
According to the father Orlando Pirates player, his son Samkelo should take inspiration from players like Themba Zwane and Teko Modise, whose careers faced early setbacks.
“We’ve all been down that path, and the two most prominent examples of players he can relate to, that I always share with him, is Teko Modise and Themba Zwane,” he noted.
“When they broke into the professional ranks, they were not starters, they even got loaned to other teams, but they came back and look at where they are now,” Zwane senior concluded.
