Kaizer Chiefs part ways with Thabo Cele

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the departure of midfielder Thabo Cele after the two parties agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent.

The decision brings an end to Cele’s time with Amakhosi as the club continues to make significant changes to its squad ahead.

Chiefs confirmed that the termination followed discussions between the club and the player, with both parties reaching an agreement that allows Cele to move on and explore the next chapter of his career.

“Kaizer Chiefs have terminated Thabo Cele’s contract by mutual agreement, following constructive discussions between both parties,” the club said in a statement.

The midfielder’s exit comes as Chiefs continue reshaping their playing squad, with the club looking to build a team capable of competing strongly across domestic competitions in the new campaign.

According to the Soweto giants, Cele will now be free to “pursue new opportunities” following the agreement.

Chiefs also took the opportunity to thank the player for his contribution during his spell at the club, affectionately referring to him as “Induna Yendawo”.

“We thank ‘Induna Yendawo’ for his commitment during his time at Kaizer Chiefs and wish him the very best in his future career,” the club added.

Cele’s departure is another significant change at Naturena as Chiefs continue to overhaul their squad and prepare for the demands of the 2026/27 campaign.
