Chiefs hit by double blow as two key players sidelined by injury
Kaizer Chiefs have been dealt a double injury setback heading into their last fixture before the FIFA international break.
Goalkeeper Brandon Petersen injured his left knee in training on Tuesday morning and will miss four to six weeks.
The club said the experienced shot-stopper “injured the medial collateral ligament in his left knee and will now undergo rehabilitation.”
Petersen has started every match since the season kicked off in August. But he had been under pressure following unfortunate howlers.
Attacker Wandile Duba is also out, for about two weeks, with a hip and groin injury. Duba has already scored three goals this season.
The club said he “has a minor defect in the affected area, and the medical team will monitor his progress closely over the coming week before determining the next course of action.”
Both have been central to Amakhosi’s strong start.
“Both players have played key roles in Kaizer Chiefs’ strong start to the campaign, and their absence will be felt,” the club said.
“The club extends its best wishes to Petersen and Duba for a speedy recovery and looks forward to welcoming them back to action soon.”
Amakhosi face Golden Arrows at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday afternoon before the FIFA break.
