Junior Khanye tears into new Chiefs signing

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Junior Khanye

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Junior Khanye has launched a scathing attack on one of the club’s newest signings, claiming the player will do little to improve Amakhosi this season.

Speaking on the iDiski TV podcast, Khanye singled out Tanzanian midfielder Adolf Mtasingwa, saying the club has bought a player who simply adds numbers to the squad rather than quality.

Why did we not get a similar player in Daveton, Soweto or Spruit?” asked Khanye, who is known for going in hard against his former team. “We could find someone much better than this guy. If you can’t attack the space with the ball and you are an international player, there is a problem.

“And if you can’t turn with the ball, as an international player – then there is a problem. There is nothing special about this guy.
” Khanye believes Mtasingwa’s style of play puts more pressure on Lebohang Maboe in the middle of the park.

He plays safe, and doesn’t want to take charge of the game. Mabue is going to get tired or injured… What happens then because Maboe is supposed to be a defensive midfielder but he is now a box-to-box midfielder. “So he does a dual role while this guy is there which means he is just filling the space in the starting lineup sheet.

“He reminds me of another former Chiefs midfielder Agay (Akumu). You know, him and Agay are the same
.” Khanye added that although he does not rate Thabo Cele that highly, he still believes the midfielder offers more than Mtasingwa.

For me, I do not rate Cele that highly. There is nothing special about him, but he is better in terms of fetching the ball, passing it and asking for it.
“He has accuracy in passing, but Cele also does not have that character… But with this one, you can’t play effectively
,” insisted Khanye.
