Jub Jub Freed on R5,000 Bail After Emergency High Court Intervention in Johannesburg

Jub Jub bail

Musician and television presenter Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye has been released on R5,000 bail following an urgent application before the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg, bringing a dramatic twist to a case that has already drawn intense public attention.

The order, granted on Tuesday, came after Maarohanye’s legal team approached the High Court on an expedited basis, arguing that his continued detention without a prompt court appearance violated his constitutional rights.

Arrest and mounting legal uncertainty

Maarohanye was arrested over the weekend in connection with an alleged incident involving an e-hailing driver in Edenvale, east of Johannesburg. Details surrounding the incident remain limited, but the case quickly escalated into a high-profile legal matter given the entertainer’s public profile and controversial past.

He was initially expected to appear before the Germiston Magistrates’ Court on Monday. However, authorities later indicated that his first appearance would only take place on Wednesday, creating a delay that his legal representatives challenged in court.

High Court steps in on an urgent basis

Arguing urgency, Maarohanye’s lawyers approached the Gauteng High Court, contending that the postponement amounted to an infringement of his rights to be brought before court within a reasonable time after arrest.

The court agreed to hear the matter urgently. After consideration, it ordered his release on R5,000 bail pending his appearance in the magistrates’ court.

The ruling effectively placed immediate pressure on the lower court proceedings while ensuring Maarohanye’s temporary release from custody.

Case postponed as investigation continues

Despite his release, the legal process is far from over. The matter has now been postponed to 22 June 2026 for further investigation, as authorities continue to gather evidence relating to the alleged incident.

At this stage, the charges and full circumstances of the case have not been publicly detailed, and it remains a matter under active investigation.

A case watched closely by the public

Maarohanye, who has remained a polarising figure in South Africa’s entertainment landscape, continues to attract significant public scrutiny whenever he appears in legal proceedings. His latest arrest and subsequent release on bail have once again placed him at the centre of national attention.

For now, he remains out on bail while the legal process unfolds in the weeks ahead.
