Jub Jub Back In Court On Firearm Charges

Media personality Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye is expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court today, Monday on charges of discharging a firearm in a public place and pointing an object likely to make another person believe it is a firearm.

The charges stem from an alleged confrontation with an e-hailing driver in Edenvale on 14 June. Police allege that Maarohanye confronted the driver after accusing him of having a romantic relationship with his girlfriend, forced him into a vehicle, and fired a shot in his direction. The driver escaped unharmed and reported the incident to police.

A pellet gun was later seized from Maarohanye’s residence during the investigation. He was released on R5,000 bail after an urgent High Court application.

Maarohanye failed to appear in court on 24 August, with his legal team citing ill health. A warrant for his arrest was issued but held over until his next appearance, which is scheduled for today. The National Prosecuting Authority says the state is ready to proceed with the case.

Maarohanye has denied the allegations.
