Jozi FM Suspends CEO Mpho Mhlongo, Appoints Collen Hans as Acting Chief
The Board of the Soweto Media Resource Centre (SMRC), trading as Jozi FM 105.8, has officially suspended its Chief Executive Officer, Mpho Mhlongo.
Following this decision, the board announced the immediate appointment of Collen Hans as the station’s Acting Chief Executive Officer. The sudden leadership change was formalized through an internal memorandum issued by the Chairperson of the Board, Rapitse Montsho.
According to the directive, the board enacted Resolution BR/2026/24 on August 10, 2026, to suspend Mhlongo. Hans assumed the role of Acting CEO on the same day and will remain in the position until further notice. Board management emphasized that this swift transition ensures absolute continuity of daily operations.
Furthermore, the decision aligns the broadcasting station with specific regulatory frameworks, maintaining full compliance with ICASA TOR 5.1.3(c) and a recent High Court Order dated July 21, 2026.
With the leadership transition taking immediate effect, the board has outlined new operational protocols for all SMRC staff, volunteers, and presenters:
Direct Reporting: All operational matters, approvals, and external correspondence must be directed to Hans.
Signing Authority: Hans is officially designated as the sole authorized signatory for the station during this interim period.
Staff Cooperation: The board has requested full cooperation and institutional support from the entire team to assist Hans during the transition.
Despite the sudden executive shift, the board reassured stakeholders of its unwavering commitment to strong corporate governance and strict regulatory compliance. The organization remains fully focused on successfully hosting its upcoming Elective Annual General Meeting (AGM), which is scheduled to take place on or before September 21, 2026.
The memorandum concluded with an expression of gratitude from leadership, thanking the internal team for their continued dedication and service to Jozi FM 105.8. The document was formally signed off by Chairperson Montsho and Director Dr. Thulani Mhlongo, with a copy circulated to Carol Dyantyi.
