Media Statement POLOKWANE – Provincial Visible Task team in Limpopo conducted a tactical intelligence driven operation since Wednesday night until Thursday, 28 March 2024, which resulted in the recovery of hijacked motor vehicle and arrests of eight suspects between the ages of 15 and 35 for crimes ranging from robberies, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of suspected stolen properties. The five suspects aged between15 and 22 were arrested in connection with business robbery committed at a local training centre in Letsitele policing area last month. The group was found in possession of some of the stolen properties that included, computer, screen monitor and sewing machine. The operatives also recovered a white Toyota Yaris that was hijacked at block P east in Thohoyandou. This after the complainant was accosted by two armed suspects while opening the gate to his residence. The vehicle was found abandoned in Lwamondo village. Police are still on the hunt for suspects. During the operation, the Visible Task team joined forces with their counterparts in Burgersfort and swiftly acted on a positive tip-off, which led to the apprehension of a 34-year-old male suspect found in possession of two unlicensed firearms and ammunition at his residence in Mamone village, Jane Furse. The suspect’s younger brother, aged 29, was also arrested at the same place after he was linked with two armed robberies cases committed in Jane Furse in 2022. As part of the operation, the Visible Task team members raided liquor outlets, checking for non-compliance where several illegal shebeens were closed down and a substantial amount of liquor confiscated. The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has lauded the successes as a result of intensified operations across the province, which are strategically planned and executed, targeting hotspots and areas prone to criminal activities. The suspects will soon appear before their respective Magistrate’s Courts. Ends
