Joint forces through intelligence driven operation Vala Umgodi nab illegal miners

POLOKWANE – The Joint Forces comprising of the SAPS Tactical Response Team, Public Order Police, Organised Crime Investigation, National Intervention Unit and the South African National Defence Force have conducted an Intelligence Driven Operation Vala Umgodi and subsequently nabbed three illegal miners aged between 29 and 35 years at Mulati illicit mining sites under Letsitele policing area in Mopani District.

It is reported that the team has on Saturday 04 May 2024 in the early hours intelligently operationalised information gathered and subsequently arrested three male suspects while digging minerals underground at illegal mining sites in Mulati village.

The Police have confiscated mining equipment that included shovels and picks which are believed to have been used in illegal mining activities.

The suspects are expected to appear before Nkowa-nkowa Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 06 May 2024 facing charges of illegal mining.
