The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department’s Tactical Response Unit (TRU) scored a major breakthrough against organised crime during routine crime-prevention patrols in Mayfair on Thursday, 8 January 2026.
At around 10:40am, officers responded to a report of a business robbery at a property in Amalgam. Acting quickly, the TRU team entered the premises and discovered nine suspects hiding inside the building.
During the operation, police recovered an unlicensed firearm loaded with live ammunition, which was later linked to an earlier case in Johannesburg Central. Investigations also led to the discovery of a white Isuzu truck believed to have been used in the crime. The vehicle was found fitted with false registration plates.
The firearm, ammunition, vehicle, and other related items were seized as evidence. All nine suspects were arrested and taken into custody at Langlaagte SAPS as investigations continue.
