Jacob Zuma, former President of South Africa, has long been at the center of controversy over his alleged ties to the men convicted of assassinating anti-apartheid icon Chris Hani in 1993.
In 2006, Zuma reportedly visited Clive Derby-Lewis, one of Hani’s killers, in prison a move that raised tensions within the ANC.
Adding fuel to the fire, it has been alleged that Zuma had promised to grant pardons to both Derby-Lewis and Janusz Waluś if he ever became president.
However, once in office, he refrained from fulfilling this pledge, instead citing internal party disagreements.
