Internal Affairs Minister, Varney Sirleaf is urging Liberians to stay peaceable and calm in the course of the upcoming 2023 Presidential and Legislative elections.

Speaking when he formally launched a UN Peace Building Fund (PBF) help undertaking on “Peaceful Electoral Environment & Community Security in Liberia,” not too long ago in Monrovia, Minister Sirleaf careworn that violent free, clear, and inclusive elections stay essential to sustaining Liberia’s hard-won peace.

He maintained that it requires nationwide possession of the method, respect for the rule of regulation, one another’s rights and political beliefs, constructing public belief and confidence, forging partnerships and demonstrating a dedication to easy and peaceable transition of energy.

Commenting on the undertaking, the nation’s Internal Affairs Minister stated, it provides worth to the electoral course of because it seeks to handle the issues related to peaceable elections utilizing early warning & response mechanisms earlier than, throughout and after elections.

“The undertaking will complement the Government’s efforts to strengthen peace and safety, and the consolidation of our democracy by making certain that the nation experiences inclusive, clear, credible, and peaceable elections in 2023.

“I am encouraged by the fact that the project will strengthen the participation of vulnerable groups especially youth which make up 60 percent of Liberia’s population that are often prone to manipulations to cause violence, as well as women and people living with disabilities,”he famous.

With the continued marginalization of girls and youth within the political course of, the United Nations in Liberia desires to see a reputable, clear, and inclusive elections course of that affords girls the house, safety and empowerment required for them to compete within the political house and really feel secure to take part.

The UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Liberia, Stephen Rodriquez on the launching ceremony additionally reiterated the position of youth within the elections course of.
