23 September 2024 – The South African Football Association (SAFA), in partnership with the FIFA Talent Development Scheme (TDS), hosted the inaugural U15 Girls Interprovincial Tournament on Monday afternoon at the Panorama Football Club in Honeydew, Roodepoort.
The U15 Girls TDS Interprovincial Tournament will run over two days with the final scheduled for 15h00 on 24 September 2024. All nine provincial teams are present at the inaugural tournament and some provinces have already expressed their desire to have their players seen and selected by the scouts present at the event.
Gauteng brought fireworks to Day One with their 7-0 victory over the Northern Cape. Free State did the same as both teams won their two opening matches of the day.
U15 National Team Head Coach Ntombifuthi Khumalo was highly impressed that the provinces had put so much effort into ensuring that they brought good squads to the TDS Interprovincial Tournament.
“If you know me, you will know how passionate I am about girls’ development in football. Being here is like being in a candy shop for me,” said a jovial Khumalo.
“The likes of Coach Ntabeleng Modika, Anna Monate, Maud Khumalo, Unathi Mabena, Sprinter and myself, just to mention a few scouts/coaches, have had a wonderful day watching these young ladies. We have seen players that we wish we had seen earlier this year, and we have already identified a group that we would really love to work with as we head into 2025,” continued Khumalo.
“This TDS Interprovincial Tournament for girls is a great initiative and we hope that we can have more of these tournaments from a younger age all the way up to U19, so that we can continue grooming the next generation of Banyana Banyana players.”
Day Two of the U15 Girls TDS Interprovincial Tournament will see the remaining group stage matches played in the morning with the semifinals scheduled for 1pm before the 3pm final to see who will be crowned 2024 Champions.
