Pakistani national Imran Butt has reported receiving an alleged indirect threat after formally stating that he intends to testify before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
Butt previously came forward after being implicated during testimony by suspended SAPS Deputy National Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya.
In media interviews, Butt denied any wrongdoing and accused Sibiya of extorting money from him under the guise of “protection fees,” insisting that he wants the commission to hear his side of the story.
According to a letter submitted to the commission by his legal representatives, Butt received a missed WhatsApp call on Friday, 20 February 2026, from a senior police official who is currently on suspension.
When he returned the call, the official allegedly informed him that Sibiya had instructed him to warn Butt to “back off” from engaging with the commission.
