NORTHERN CAPE – The Operation Vala Umgodi multi-disciplinary team in the Northern Cape continues to disrupt illegal mining activities in the province. The team in the Namakwa district, comprising of SAPS and SANDF arrested four men aged between 32 and 44 years old, for illegal mining and trespassing in the Kleinzee area on Saturday 21 September 2024. The team operationalised intelligence driven information received regarding illegal mining activities taking place inside the mine property, which led to the arrests. Mining implements, believed to be utilised during illegal mining activities were confiscated. Disruptive actions under the auspices of Operation Vala Umgodi will continue in the district in an effort to eradicate illicit mining. Ends
