POLOKWANE – The ongoing Operation Vala Umgodi conducted in the province, resulted in the apprehension of ten (10) suspects aged between 21 and 54, for charges of illegal mining and contravention of immigration laws, on Friday, 18 April 2025. Two suspects, both aged 36, were nabbed for illegal processing of precious minerals in Giyani Policing area. The members conducted intelligence driven operation at Mavalani Village in Nsami River, which led to the arrest of the suspects. During the arrest Police confiscated a bag of precious minerals, pickaxe, spade, and shovel. Meanwhile, eight (08) suspects aged between 21 and 54 were arrested for contravention of immigration laws at Apel Policing area.
The Police investigations are ongoing.
