The Independent Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC), South Africa’s specialised anti-corruption unit within the National Prosecuting Authority, has issued a firm press statement today, 17 May 2026, dismissing social media rumours of a J50 warrant of arrest against KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
IDAC described the claims as false and motivated by attempts to disrupt the directorate’s work and Mkhwanazi’s ongoing efforts in the fight against crime, particularly political killings and syndicates in KZN.
The statement urges the public to remain vigilant against misinformation aimed at destabilising law enforcement.
