“I prioritise intentional scheduling, self-care, and spiritual grounding practices such as meditation and sound healing.” These are the words of Afro Soulful House Music Producer and Dj Afrilicious Mumma.

Real name Simone Cohen from South London in the United Kingdom, Afrolicious Mumma is a perfect example of how she is able to fuse music and spirituality.
“I was born and raised in a community rich with sound system culture, reggae, soul, and house music. Music was not separate from life, it was life. My father was a musician, and my mother a music connoisseur I grew up surrounded by music, revolution, and the energy of creation. I witnessed firsthand how music could bring people together, heal pain, and create identity.
“My upbringing included both beauty and challenges, and those experiences shaped my understanding of emotional healing and resilience. Over time, music became both my refuge and my voice. I later expanded into sound healing, spoken word, and broadcasting, creating spaces where people could feel seen, heard, and restored. Today, AfroLicious Mumma is the embodiment of that journey from lived experience to purposeful expression,” she said.
AfroLicious Mumma owns the emerging label called A Musical Ascension records where she recently released a single titled Make Love To My Mind.
“AfroLicious Mumma is an emerging label owner, DJ, sound healer, radio presenter, and creative wellness practitioner whose work is rooted in healing through sound. I am an artist who uses music as medicine, storytelling as empowerment and vibration as transformation. AfroLicious Mumma represents the fusion of ancestral rhythm and modern electronic sound, particularly Deep House, creating sonic experiences that connect people to themselves, to each other, and to their roots. My purpose is to remind people that healing, joy, and freedom can be accessed through music,” she said.
She said ther Deejaying skills were inspired by growing up in a system of culture.
“My inspiration came from growing up around sound system culture and watching DJs control energy, emotion and atmosphere. I saw DJs not just as entertainers but as energy facilitators. I was also deeply inspired by African rhythms, house music pioneers, and the spiritual connection within sound.
“House music, especially House, spoke to something ancestral within me. It wasn’t just something I listened to, it was something I felt. Becoming a DJ was a natural extension of my healing work, allowing me to guide emotional journeys through frequency and rhythm,” she said.
She further said: “Balance comes from purpose and alignment. Everything I do is connected through service, music, and community. My radio shows allows me to share music globally, travelling allows me to connect with different cultures and sounds, and service keeps me grounded and connected to community.
“I prioritise intentional scheduling, self-care, and spiritual grounding practices such as meditation and sound healing. I see each role not as separate responsibilities, but as different expressions of the same mission. healing immersed in sound.”
