The officer of the Monrovia City Police, Varlee Tarlee, who has been accused by Cllr. Jerome Verdier of being hired by Monrovia City Mayor, Jefferson Koijee to attack former Chief Justice, Gloria Musu Scott home has finally broken silence, and thereby declared his innocent.
Cllr. Verdie on February 23, 2023 serving as a guest on the Spoon Talk, made a sterling revelation that Mayor Koijee hired Varlee Tarlee who is in the employed of the City Police Department to kill the former Chief Justice, Cllr. Scott but did not provide the motive behind Koijee’s alleged plot against the former Chief Justice.
But Tarlee in respond to Cllr. Verdier allegation against his person stressed, “I am innocent and I am aware that one of my friends, Sheikh Sackor who is currently living in the United States of America (U.S.A) is the once behind this whole saga and proving those false information to Cllr. Verdier.”
“And more-besides, I don’t even know the Lady you guys are talking about. Yes, I do live in the Brewerville belt but from my work area I go home. I don’t know anything about Counselor Scott or whoever the person might be.
“And Sheikh Sackor who I consider as my brother and fought war together before is the one that is doing this to me because of hate and jealousy. We even have a business together but things are not good between us. He is the one spreading lies and linking me to arm robbery,” Tarlee explained.
Speaking at a major press conference Monday, February 27, 2023 in Monrovia, Tarlee indicated that he has not been out of the country and is not a Deputy Director at the Monrovia City Police, contrary to Cllr. Verdier’s and other Liberians assertions.
According to him, he joined the Monrovia City Police in July of 2022 and has since been a patrol man, and thus claimed to be a resident of the Banjor Community in Brewerville where he is also teaching at the Islamist school in the community.
“I teach 200 plus muslin children in Banjor. I don’t know how my name starts to take over the place because I was not at home during the arm robbery instead, I was at work, and at the night of the incident, I was to City Hall. I spent most of my time at the Monrovia City Hall.”
Tarlee, according to reports is an ex-soldier of former President Charles Taylor’s notorious Anti-Terrorist Unit (ATU), and prior to joining the ATU served as a member of the rebel group, ULIMO K. As a rebel fighter, Tarlee allegedly killed many people in Sinoe County.
In respond, Tarlee admitted of being a member of the Special Security Unit (SSU), and ATU as well as his involvement in the civil war but clarified that he is now a changed man and I have nothing to do with the killing of anybody.
He added, “I fought for UNIMO-K and later join NPP. I was sent to the SSU and later join ATU. I and Sheikh fought together we were in a business, a mining business and since the business collapsed we fall apart, that is why he is telling people all these lies about me but I am a change man now and I am innocent.”
Meanwhile, the Monrovia City Police Director, Col. G. Thomas Garwo buttressing Tarlee’s assertion also stated that despite Tarlee’s ugly past, he has exhibited good working behavior since he joined the Monrovia City Police.
Col. Garwo said the photos of Tarlee that are making rounds on the internet were taken during his war days, and not current ones, thereby clarified that Tarlee does not carry firearm, stressing, “I am the only him, as the commander for the City police that is carrying a gun because I was trained at the Liberia National Police Academy and a licensed firearm carrier.”
