Oscar Pistorius has spent his first-weekend post-prison, with a taste of freedom after being released on parole last week. But the former Paralympian – convicted of killing girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp – will likely not face the same fate as other newly-released offenders.
Despite his previous lavish lifestyle of fast cars and sprawling mansions, reportedly funded by his athletic career and endorsements, the ex athlete actually comes from a wealthy family. In fact the Pistorius clan boast over 100 lucrative businesses!
On Friday, 5 January, Oscar was released on parole after serving half of his 13-year and five-month murder sentence. He is currently living at his uncle Arnold Pistorius’s Waterklood mansion in Pretoria.

OSCAR PISTORIUS LIVING AT UNCLE’S PRETORIA MANSION
Last week, Oscar Pistorius made a low-key exit from the Atteridgeville Correctional Centre to his uncle Arnold’s spacious Waterkloof home.
Arnold, Oscar’s paternal uncle, is a prominent businessman who accumulated much of his wealth through developing, letting, and managing commercial properties around South Africa.
According to Oscar’s father Henke, Pistorius had his own cottage on the sprawling Pretoria property. It was here that Oscar lived during the murder trial.
Henke told Pretoria News last year: “We are excited about the prospect of having him home. This has been a disrupted and difficult time for us.”

According to The Mirror, the brick-faced home – worth over R20 million – boasts “sweeping verandas, landscaped gardens, and a swimming pool”. The 24-room mansion is also equipped with high walls and a 24-hour-a-day posted security guard to keep prying eyes away.
LUCRATIVE FAMILY BUSINESSES
While many wonder what’s next for Oscar, it’s clear he can rely on his family to help him back on his feet.
The Pistorius family wealth emanates from Oscar’s paternal grandfather Hendrik Pistorius, who has four sons, Theo, Arnold, Henke, and Leo. He also has three daughters Sonia Grobler, Heidi Drew, and Reine Malan.
