A family in Malamulele, Limpopo, experienced a nightmare on Tuesday, when two armed intruders violently broke into their home in the early hours of the morning. The horrific incident took place around 2:30 AM, when the father of two, aged 43, was asleep in his bedroom.
The intruders, wearing balaclavas, stormed into the house and threatened the father with firearms, demanding money and valuables. Despite his best efforts to comply, the father only had a cellphone to offer, which he handed over to the attackers. He was then bound with rope as the intruders moved on to other parts of the house.
Hearing gunshots shortly afterward, the father managed to free himself and rushed to check on his children. Tragically, he found his 20-year-old son lying on the floor, fatally wounded by a gunshot to the forehead. In the next room, he discovered that his 17-year-old daughter had been brutally raped by one of the assailants.
The attackers, who also stole a laptop, television, bicycle, chainsaw, and other valuables worth around R36,300, fled the scene, leaving devastation in their wake. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the son succumbed to his injuries.
Limpopo police have launched a large-scale manhunt for the suspects, with provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe promising to use all resources at their disposal to track down the criminals.
