Media Statement KIMBERLEY – The Pixley Ka Seme District Management welcomes the conviction and sentencing of two individuals by the Hopetown Regional Court for crimes related to gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF). In the first case, on Sunday, 18 January 2024, at approximately 21:00, a 24-year-old woman was socializing with friends when her 30-year-old boyfriend Dilon Paulus, against whom she had obtained a protection order, approached her and demanded to speak with her. When she refused, the accused brandished a knife, forcibly took her to his residence, and assaulted her. Upon arrival at his home, an argument ensued, during which he stabbed the victim thrice in the arm. The victim subsequently reported the incident to the police, leading to the arrest of the accused on charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and Contravention of a Protection order. On Wednesday, 19 March 2025, the Hopetown Regional Court convicted and sentenced Paulus to five years’ imprisonment. Additionally, the court declared him unfit to possess a firearm. In an unrelated case, on Sunday, 25 August 2024, at approximately 19:45, a 36-year-old female victim was at home with her family when the 33-year-old accused, intoxicated, arrived and demanded food. Upon being informed that the food was not yet ready, he became aggressive, verbally abusive and physically violent. The situation escalated when he produced a knife and stabbed the victim in the neck before fleeing the scene. Family members assisted the victim and transported her to hospital for medical treatment. Following her discharge on Monday, 26 August 2024, she reported the incident to the police, leading to the arrest of George Williams (33) on a charge of attempted murder. On Wednesday, 19 March 2025, the Hopetown Regional Court sentenced Williams to four years’ imprisonment and declared him unfit to possess a firearm. The Pixley Ka Seme District Commissioner, Major General Nomana Mtukushe commended Detective Constable Lutsha Sweli of the Hopetown Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit for his dedication and investigative efforts in ensuring that perpetrators of GBVF are brought to justice.
