Media Statement BLOEMFONTEIN – On Thursday 14 March 2024 at about 05:10 Bloemfontein Flying Squad members received information from Tracker SA on a vehicle tampering signal they have received. The vehicle, a silver Opel Corsa Utility with Gauteng Province registration numbers, was found abandoned in an open space behind Phahameng Cemetery. All four wheels and the vehicle’s battery were missing and no one reported that the vehicle as stolen or hijacked. Further investigation was conducted by members and it led them to the vehicle owner who was found at his residence in Phahameng bleeding from a bullet wound. The victim reported that he arrived at home at about 00:05 on 14 March 2024 and was attacked by two unknown males. He attempted to run away but one of the suspects fired a shot at him wounding him on his back. The suspects reportedly fled in the victim’s vehicle. He managed to limp back to the house where he called for emergency services. The vehicle was seized and a case of carjacking was opened for further investigation. Ends
