WESTERN CAPE – The Hawks’ Asset Forfeiture Investigation team in conjunction with the National Prosecuting Authority Asset Forfeiture Unit have on 15 August 2024 received a forfeiture order which was granted by the Western Cape division of the High Court on 30 July 2024. It is reported that on 25 December 2016, the SANEB members of the Hawks based in George received information about a vehicle en route from Gauteng to George in the Western Cape. The mentioned vehicle was reported to have a consignment of Mandrax tablets hidden in concealed compartments in the roof. The information was operationalized and the vehicle was spotted at the Outeniqua Pass on the N12 highway and was searched with the assistance of K9 Unit. Mandrax tablets to the value of approximately R3.8 million were found and seized. The forfeiture order was granted on the Hyundai vehicle valued at R150 000.00 which was used as instrumentality together with cash amount of R11 784.00 that was seized. Ends
