EASTERN CAPE: The Gqeberha Priority Crime Specialised Investigation of the Hawks and National Prosecuting Authority’s Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFI) has successfully secured a final forfeiture order for cash linked to criminal activities involving Siphiwo Dube (44) and Thembani Magenuka (31). The order was granted by the Grahamstown High Court on 5 November 2024. The case originated on 17 September 2024, when the South African Police Service (SAPS) K9 Unit in Cradock received a tip-off about a suspicious stationary bakkie with two occupants. Upon searching the vehicle the team discovered 0,33 kg of Tik, along with over R100,000 in cash. Following the suspects’ arrest for drug possession, the Asset Forfeiture Investigating Team conducted a comprehensive investigation. The case was subsequently referred to the AFU, which successfully obtained a preservation order on 20 August 2024. The criminal case is still ongoing and the matter was remanded to 23 April 2025.
The Grahamstown High court has now granted a forfeiture order for the cash totalling R119 635-00.
