Media Statement GAUTENG – The Gauteng Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation’s Serious Organised Crime Investigation (SOCI) in Vaal Rand has secured the conviction and sentencing of Muntu Rogers Mathabela for the theft of Transnet diesel. Muntu Rogers Mathabela, a 46-year-old employee of Econ Logistics, was arrested 27 August 2022, for stealing 13,223 liters of Transnet diesel while transporting it from Mooiriver, KZN to Jameson Park in Heidelberg. Upon investigation, it was revealed that Mathabela made an unauthorized stop along the N3, during which the diesel went missing. On Monday, 9 December 2024, Mathabela was found guilty of theft by the Nigel Magistrates Court and was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment. He has been declared unfit to possess a firearm. The truck and trailer used in the crime have been returned to Econ Transport Logistics. “The Gauteng Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation remains committed to disrupting and dismantling criminal activities and upholding justice,” reassured Major General Ebrahim Kadwa.
