Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – The Hawks Asset Forfeiture Investigation in collaboration with the Director of Public Prosecution’s Asset Forfeiture Unit have on 05 April 2024 secured a confiscation order to the value of R100 000.00. This emanates from 2016 when information was received that the suspect was growing cannabis in George. He allegedly moved to various farms where he began growing bigger crops of cannabis. This matter was investigated by the Hawks and a syndicate who assisted the suspect was identified. The suspect allegedly channelled the proceeds through his businesses. He was eventually arrested in Riversdale for possession of cannabis oil and subsequently entered into a Section 105A plea agreement for sentencing. In terms of Chapter 5, Section 18 of POCA of the confiscation order, the suspect agreed to pay R100 000.00 into Criminal Assets Recovery Account (CARA). Ends
