FREE STATE – The Free State High Court granted the National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) and the Hawks’ Priority Crime Specialised Investigation (PCSI) a forfeiture order worth R320 000.00. The forfeiture order emanates from an arrest that was effected by the police at the Maseru Port of Entry, where a 39-year-old Lesotho national, Mokhali Sankoela was caught in possession of large sum of money he could not account for and for trying to bribe police officers to avoid his arrest on 26 March 2024. A docket was registered then referred to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation in Bethlehem and PCSI for further investigation. The criminal case is still ongoing at the Ladybrand Commercial Court where it is postponed to 17 March 2025 for legal representation. The Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in the Free State Major General Mokgadi Bokaba commends the collective effort made by PCSI and AFU for successfully securing this forfeiture order.
