The Bloemfontein Priority Crime Specialised Investigation (PCSI) of the Hawks together with the National Prosecuting Authority’s Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) have successfully secured a forfeiture order for cash linked to criminal activities involving Halimmah Thamando Mnyobisi (39).
Free State Hawks Spokesperson Warrant Officer Fikizwa Matoti the matter originates from 15 September 2023 in Botshabelo, when Halimmah’s husband, Fezile Mnyobisi, who was a teacher at a school in Botshabelo, was found stabbed and left in a pool of blood on his way home from a local tavern. A case docket of murder was registered and investigation revealed that Halimmah and three accomplices orchestrated the murder.
A payout of about R3 million was paid into Halimmah’s bank account by the Government Employee Pension Fund (GEPF) as she was the main beneficiary of the deceased’s pensions. She used some of the money to buy assets.
Following their arrest, the asset forfeiture team of PCSI and AFU managed to secure a preservation order. The court has now granted a forfeiture order to the value of more than R260 000.
Meanwhile, the criminal case against Halimmah and co-accused was postponed to 07 July 2025 in the Botshabelo Magistrates Court.
