Media Statement JEFFREYS BAY – Members from Gqeberha Public Order Policing (POP) on their first day of deployment in the Sarah Baartman District managed to arrest a 35-year-old man for charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of unlicensed ammunition. The man allegedly sneaked into a nearby barbershop to avoid police vehicles during their normal routine patrols in Jeffrey’s Bay yesterday. It is alleged that on Friday, 06 December 2024 around midday, members from Gqeberha POP Unit were conducting routine patrols in Mandela Street, Jeffreys Bay, when they noticed the suspicious man, who entered the nearby barbershop upon noticing police vehicles. Several members followed him, and found him inside the barbershop. He was searched and a firearm with ammunition was found in his possession. A serial number on the firearm was filed off. The firearm will be subjected to ballistics tests for forensic analysis. A 35-year-old man is due to appear in the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 09 December 2024 on charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of unlicensed ammunition.
