Grandmother stabbed in neck by her drug addict grandson
A 61-year-old woman was brutally stabbed in the neck by her 22-year-old grandson at their home in Mountview, KwaZulu-Natal, on Sunday afternoon.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 16h21. Upon arrival, they discovered the injured woman at the back of a bakkie, with a scarf tied around her neck to stem the bleeding. Her clothing was soaked in blood.
According to initial reports, the suspect allegedly a drug addict demanded money to buy narcotics. When his grandmother refused, he reportedly dragged her out of the house and down an embankment, where he stabbed her near a stream before fleeing in an unknown direction.
Neighbours responded to her cries for help, administered first aid, and transported her to hospital in a private vehicle. It was further alleged that this was not the first time the woman had been assaulted by her grandson.
While RUSA officers conducted an extensive search of the area based on the suspect’s description, no arrests had been made at the time of reporting.
